And Jesus said unto them, "Go ye into all the world and preach the GOSPEL to every creature"  Mark 16:15

Question - What is the GOSPEL and why did the Lord command his disciples to proclaim it to the world?

The answer to these two questions is simple!

First, we find the definition of what the GOSPEL is in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. The GOSPEL is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ - plus nothing, minus nothing! Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4,

Morever brethren, I declare unto you the GOSPEL which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand.
By which also ye are saved...
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS according to the scriptures (Isaiah 53:5-8).
And that HE WAS BURIED (Isaiah 53:9) and that HE ROSE AGAIN the third day according to the scriptures (Isaiah 55:3/ Acts 73:34)

The GOSPEL (or, Good News) is not Christ's death, burial, and resurrection plus good works, or plus church membership, or plus baptism. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1:17,

For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the GOSPEL

It is not Jesus plus anything - but Jesus only!

Secondly, the reason why the Lord commanded his disciples to preach the GOSPEL to the world is that only the GOSPEL saves. Paul said in Romans 1:16,

For I am not ashamed of the GOSPEL of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth;

Paul said again in Ephesians 1:13,

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the GOSPEL of your salvation:

Anyone can be saved who accepts the facts of the GOSPEL. The facts of the GOSPEL are:

  1. CHRIST DIED (PAID) FOR OUR SINS, proving that man cannot save himself. (Ephesians 2:8, 9 & Titus 3:5)
  2. CHRIST WAS BURIED, proving that the price for salvation was paid in full. (Romans 6:23a)
  3. CHRIST ROSE FROM THE DEAD, proving that He is, was, and always will be God. (Romans 1:4)

Abraham (Galatians 3:6-8), Moses (Hebrews 4:1, 2) and Isaiah (Romans 10:15, 16) all believed the facts of the GOSPEL and were saved!

Question - Now that you know what the GOSPEL is and why the Lord sent his disciples into the world to proclaim it, are you willing to accept the facts of the GOSPEL and be saved? If so, acknowledge the following:

  1. Repent and agree with God that you are a sinner and that you cannot save yourself. (Romans 3:23)
  2. Repent and agree with God that your sin is bad enough to send you to hell and that you need the Savior. (Romans 6:23/Luke 13:1-5)
  3. Repent and accept what the Savior (Christ) did for you on the cross and ask Him to save you from your sin and take you to heaven when you die. (Romans 5:8 & 10:13)

Jesus said in Mark 1:15,The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the GOSPEL.

Simply take God at His Word and claim His promise for your salvation. Bow your head right now and sincerely ask Jesus Christ to forgive you of your sins and save your soul.
