Spiritual Gifts
Twelve truths concerning the permanent gifts of service (I Cor 12)
- Every believer is to be knowledgeable concerning his/her spiritual gifts (I Cor 12:1)
- GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT is in charge of the distribution of our spiritual gifts (I Cor 12:4,8-9,11)
- GOD THE SON is in charge of the administration (or, ministry) of our spiritual gifts (I Cor 12:5)
- GOD THE FATHER is in charge of the operation (or, energy; power) of our spiritual gifts (I Cor 12:6)
- Every believer receives at least one spiritual gift upon salvation (I Cor 12:7-11)
- The gifts to the Church (apostles, prophets, evangelists, and teaching pastors) are greater than the gifts of service (miracles, healings, helps, governments, tongues, etc.) that the HOLY SPIRIT bestows upon the Church (I Cor 12:28)
- Every believer is held accountable according to how he used his spiritual gifts (Mt 25:14-29, I Pet 4:10 and Rom 14:12)
- Spiritual gifts can be multiplied (Mt 25:16-17)
- Every believer is to desire spiritual gifts for the sake of serving God better (I Cor 14:1 & 1:7)
- Spiritual gifts are subject to the believer's control (I Cor 14:27-32)
- Spiritual gifts are to be used to minister and to help others spiritually (Rom 1:11 and I Pet 4:10)
- Spiritual gifts are to be administrated in love (I Cor 12:31)
The Six Speaking Gifts (Romans 12:6-8 & 1 Corinthians 12:8-10)
- Prophecy
The ability to proclaim God's truths without apology (Rom 12:6 & I Cor12:10). - Teaching
The ability to instruct, clarify, communicate, and validate God's truths in such a way that others can understand it (Rom 12:7). - Exhortation
The ability to encourage, stimulate, and motivate the people of God to live God's truths (Rom 12:8). - Wisdom
The ability to apply God's truths to men’s lives (I Cor 12:8 & Dan 1:17 & I Ki 3:9-11). - Knowledge
The ability to grasp God's truths and thus make the message understandable (I Cor 12:8 & Dan 1:17). - Tongues (learning foreign languages easily)
The ability to learn a foreign language easily so as to proclaim God's truths to others (I Cor 12:10, 28-30 & 14:1-28).
The Nine Serving Gifts (Romans 12:7-8 & 1 Corinthians 12:9-10, 28)
- Ministry
The ability to serve others in such a way that you magnify the work of Christ (Rom 12:7). - Mercy
The ability to encourage and sympathize with others for the sake of Christ (Rom 12:8). - Giving
The ability to contribute material resources with liberality and cheerfulness for the cause of Christ (Rom 12:8). - Ruling
The ability to rule in the work of Christ with discipline, order, love, and consistency (Rom 12:8). - Faith
The ability to go and do the difficult for God (I Cor 12:9). - Healing
The ability to heal people physically therefore opening up their hearts spiritually to Christ (I Cor 12:9). - Discerning of Spirits
The ability to discern the spirit and attitude of others. It is a counseling gift (I Cor 12:10). - Helps
The ability to serve, love, and help the poor, weak, and outcast for the sake of Christ (I Cor 12:28). - Governments
The ability to guide and organize others for the sake of the work of Christ (I Cor 12:28).
