How many of you have a gun safe? How many of you have a place where you keep your valuables?

  • Maybe it's a watch your grandfather gave you.
  • Maybe it's piece of jewelry that's been passed down in your family for generations.
  • Maybe it's just something that is valuable to you and no one else/

Normally, things that are valuable to us we keep them in a safe place. Today, I want to make the point, that of most of us here today treat one of our most valuable assets in a way that is unguarded.

Would you hand your debit card to just anyone?

Chances are you wouldn't because your debit card gives someone access to one of your most precious commodities, your money.

If I were to ask any of you, can I have your credit card number almost non of you would give it to me. Again, because it would give me access to one of your most precious commodities.

You might be thinking, what's more valuable than my money? The answer is your time.

Because here's the thing, when you waste your time, you waste your life. THe seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, in years make up your life.

Today the title of my sermon is "Don't waste my time"

I want to talk about 3 things.

  1. I want to tell you what the Bible says about your time
  2. Then, I want to talk about how we waste our time.
  3. Lastly, I want to give you a Biblical principle to redeem your time.

What the Bible says about our time:

We should respect it!

1 Peter 1:17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

The point that Peter is making here is that 1, this world is not our home, we are only "sojourners". 2, the limited time we have here on earth should not be wasted.

Therefore, we should "pass" the time we have on earth in "fear" ..... this means that we should treat the time we have here on earth with reverent respect.

One of the ways we show respect to GOd is using our time wisely.

  • Time is a gift
  • Time is a treasure

To disrespect the gift, is to disrespect the giver. COnversely, when we do not respect our time, we disrespect God.

How do we waste our time:

Before we move on, I want to anticipate an objection:

Some of you are probably thinking, "I already know how to waste my time, in fact I'm quite good at it."

My point here is that most of us waste our time by not thinking about our time.

We account for and budget all our other resources, but most of us never account for or budget our time.

So, how do we waste our time?

Psalm 39:4 Lord, make me
