Psalm 27:4

Psalm 27:4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and tto enquire in his temple.

"Purity of heart is to will one thing"

Do you feel defeated? Do you feel lost? One of the reasons for these emotions is our failure to live simplistic lives. Because our lives are overly complicated, and we are tunning 100 miles an hour after 100 different things we live frustrated lives.

And since we are busy chasing a nicer house, a facier job, an impressive family we accomplish nothing.

We are so consumed by chasing these things that we end up with nothing. Someone once said:

"Divided aimes tend to distraction weakness and disappointment... The amn the man of 1 pursuit is successful"

It is precisely because we are trying to pursue many things that our lives are like chasing the wind

Simply put, if we try to do everything, we will do nothing.

The reason David is called the apple of God's eye and a man after God's own heart is because the goal of his life was to experience God more deeply. To sit in his presence and enjoy His beauty.

To some of us that sounded strange or odd. When we think about the attributes of God we tend to think about His natural attributes

  • his omnipotence
  • his omniscience
  • his omnipresence

we tend not to think about the beauty of the beauty of the Lord. However, the thing that made David such an effective worshipper of God was because his mind was fixed on the beauty of the Lord.

Psalm 29:2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

Warren Wiersbe writes;

"True holiness is a beautiful thing to behold, and certainly the greatest demonstration was in the life of Jesus Christ when He ministered on earth. Sin is ugly, no matter what we may call it, but true holiness is beautiful and brings glory to God"

But it is hard for us to think of God as beautiful, the reason being is because we think of beauty as something that is person specific.

We say things like: "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" meaning, you may think something is beautiful, and I might not agree with your assessment.

This means we think of beauty in purely physical terms. It's easy to think of my wife and think to myself, "she looks good" or to look at your wife and think, not for me.

Jesus warns us of a beauty that is shallow.

Matthew 23:27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites1 for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

The point that Jesus is making here is that there is a beauty that only exists on the surface. There is a beauty that is only skin deep, however there is also a beauty that transcrends the physical. There is also a beauty that comes from being like Jesus:

When we look at out culture, we marvel at how ugly it is and we ask outselves how did we get here?

The answer is simple, we have rejected God. So today I want to talk about how we get back to living the beautiful life.

I want to talk about what is the beautiful life.

What is the beautiful life?

    1. The beautiful life is a simplistic life.
    2. The beautiful life is a holy life.

The beautiful life is a simplistic life

Psalms 27:4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I amy dwell inthe house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.

If you try to go everywhere, you will end up nowhere.

Jesus said that no man can serve 2 masters, either he will love the one and hate the other, or he will have the one and love the other.

We cannot serve God and the World at the same time.

The beautiful life is a holy life.

Psalm 29:2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

Inward purity creates outward holiness. The goal of our life is to experience the presence of God,then our lives will be marked by holiness.
